A new Asari squadmate is joining the team in Mass Effect: Andromeda, but she’s nothing like fan-favorite Asari scientist Liara T’Soni.
The new squadmate is named Peebee, and though she’s brilliant and skilled like everyone’s favorite Asari from the original Mass Effect games, her personality is very different.
“She’s very bubbly; Liara was very serious,” Mass Effect: Andromeda Creative Director Marc Walters said in a recent interview with Game Informer. “Peebee will buck the norm at any given time. She’s not about rules or culture or anything like that. She’s not even about teams or teamwork.”
Walters also reveals that one of Peebee’s primary interests is studying alien technology, and she’ll likely be seizing opportunities to do just that as you move through our neighboring galaxy.
Often setting themselves apart in the realms of science and politics, Asari are known for their brilliance as well as their ability to maneuver diplomatic situations with relative ease. Though it sounds as though Peebee will fall right in line with the Asari we’ve encountered in terms of her intelligence, it must be noted that meeting an Asari who doesn’t play by a set of rules of some kind is pretty uncommon.
Liara, Morinth, Samara, and even Aria were ruled by their own set of ideals and personal rules, but it sounds like that might not be the case for Peebee. What’s more, we’ve very rarely met an Asari who could be described as “bubbly.”
Though we still know next to nothing about who Peebee is or where she comes from, it’s clear that she represents something of a brand new direction for the Asari in the world of Mass Effect, and we can’t wait to find out what that departure means for the rest of Mass Effect: Andromeda.
