New 'Wonder Woman' Trailer Drops Diana in the Trenches of WWI
For Themyscira! The newest trailer for Wonder Woman from director Patty Jenkins arrived Thursday afternoon. In it, Gal Gadot shines as the Amazonian princess who joins World War I after her fellow Amazonians get caught in the crossfire. Hoping to end “The War to End All Wars,” Wonder Woman enters Man’s World — our world.
Wonder Woman, which will be released June 2, 2017, is the fourth in Warner Brothers’ attempt at an interconnected cinematic universe featuring characters from DC Comics. It’s also the first to take place chronologically, set primarily on the frontlines of World War I.
The setting is a departure from Wonder Woman’s original story, which traditionally began in World War II. The character made her first debut in comics on December 1941, just as the United States joined the effort. In her first comics, Wonder Woman helped the U.S. push back the forces of Nazi Germany to prevent them from taking over the world.
The events of Wonder Woman were referenced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, in which Bruce Wayne accesses Lex Luthor’s files and finds old photographs of Diana with Steve Trevor (Chris Pine in a cameo) in 20th century Europe. In the new trailer, Wonder Woman looks back on the same picture that Bruce found in Dawn of Justice.
Wonder Woman is the last DC superhero solo film before Zack Snyder’s ensemble team-up Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017. Check out the trailer below.
