Because Luke Skywalker has been living in solitude on the planet Ahch-To for a long time, it seems like the heroic Jedi Master has let himself go, at least in terms of fashion. In The Force Awakens, we saw Luke couldn’t even be bothered to use a glove to cover up his robotic hand, and now a new rumor suggests Luke will rock a “filthy” look in Star Wars: Episode VIII.
A few years back, we might not have associated Luke Skywalker with “the Dude” from The Big Lebowski, but there is no question that Luke has been abiding without human contact for quite some time, which could give him a dude-ish and slovenly appearance. A new article (and fan art rendering) on Making Star Wars suggests Luke’s “costume is apparently just filthy most of the time” and that this is in contrast to “the white regal costume he wore to meet Rey.” This speculation is based on set reports from last year, and some context for the new piece of fan art.
And, if all of this is even remotely true, we’re to infer Luke “knew” Rey was coming (trough the Force, duh) and changed into something more presentable. But, once they get into the nitty gritty of her Jedi training, Luke goes back to gross, dirty robes and gives zero fucks what anyone thinks.
All of this is totally conjecture of course, and the fan drawing on Making Star Wars is by no means remotely any kind of “proof” of how Luke will appear. For all we know, Luke will be rocking the stylish hoodies his alter-ego Mark Hamill is selling with the hip clothing retailer rag & bone.
Star Wars: Episode VIII opens on December 15, 2017 at which point, we’ll all meet and discuss Luke’s fashion choices.
