That 'Fantastic Beasts' Egg Totally Isn't What We Thought

Jacob’s been seen holding a silvery mystery egg in several of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them trailers, and we now know exactly what that egg is. That is exactly why we feel totally comfortable telling Jacob that he should probably ditch it ASAP.

Thanks to an exhibition of several of the props from the film at Paris Comic Con last weekend, we know that the egg belongs to an Occamy — a large bird with a body that can reach up to 15 feet in length. The Occamy is already aggressive, but it tends to get next-level dangerous when it comes to the protection of its eggs.

Though we’d originally theorized that the egg might belong to a Phoenix because of its appearance and the fact that it was hatching without incubation, it turns out that’s not the case. It’s an Occamy egg after all, which explains why Newt is in such a hurry to apparate both he and Jacob out of harm’s way.

It’s worth noting that the Occamy doesn’t originate from North America, but from the Far East and India, so Newt likely had the egg or the Occamy that laid it in his suitcase. But how the hell did Jacob get ahold of it?

We’ll find out when Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them arrives in theaters on November 18.
