We might be getting another all-too-human member of the Avengers family in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok: Thor’s new roommate, the hapless and down-to-earth, Darryl.
While most took Darryl’s appearance in the “Team Thor” video as an obvious joke, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has teased that there might be something more there, leading may to believe Darryl might become part of the real MCU canon.
Here’s what the “Team Thor” video in which Darryl originated revealed: Thor’s been hanging out in Australia with Darryl while Iron Man and Captain America dueled to the almost-death in Civil War. In addition to mapping out the mystery of the Infinity Stones A Beautiful Mind-style and cooking a slab of meat in the Australian sunlight, Thor’s been good-naturedly bugging the shit out of poor Darryl. Most of the internet saw the video, which featured Thor looking put-out that he hadn’t been invited to what Bruce Banner (aka The Hulk) called Iron Man and Captain America’s “pissing contest.”
It’s been said time and time again that everything in the MCU is connected. Each and every film has eventually come together or dropped in one joke or another, and the potentially 66 characters in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War just might include Darryl after his brief appearance in Ragnarok.
We’re expecting something genuinely fun out of Darryl and Thor in Ragnarok. Darryl will undeniably be bullied by Darcy and continue to look painfully awkward in the face of Thor’s might. And there’s no doubt that Thor will continue to genuinely enjoy Darryl’s company while also protecting him (and the world) from the horror to be unleashed by Ragnarok.
