An Epic Mandalorian Warrior Jets Back to 'Star Wars: Rebels'

The deadly and honorable Bo-Katan Kryze from The Clone Wars will appear in the upcoming season of Star Wars: Rebels and will hopefully bring her jetpack with her. Popular Battlestar Galactica actor Katee Sackhoff voiced Bo-Katan on The Clone Wars back in 2012 and has confirmed her character is back for Rebels this season.

Since The Clone Wars debuted in 2008, the animated versions of Star Wars have been deepening the connectivity of various storylines and concepts even before the TV cartoons were made offical canon by the Lucasfilm Story Group. We all know Clone Wars freedom fighter Saw Gerrera will appear in the flesh in Rogue One, which is cool and all, but he doesn’t have a sweet jetpack like Bo-Katan!

In the Clone Wars, Bo-Katan was a Mandalorian Warrior who fought side-by-side with Obi-Wan Kenobi. She was also the sister of Duchess Satine, a political leader from the planet Mandalore, and a love interest to Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Though Bo-Katan didn’t agree with her sister’s politics, she did team up with Obi-Wan after Satine was brutally murdered by Darth Maul during an attempted coup on Mandalore. We last saw her telling Obi-Wan that she’d do her best to keep the planet from becoming an enemy of the Republic in the future.

The events of The Clone Wars take place about 15 years before Rebels, which means a lot has probably happened on Mandalore since we last saw Bo-Katan. Had The Clone Wars not been cancelled, there were plans to depict the “siege of Mandalore” in which the Empire takes over the planet and installs a puppet Mandalorian official.

Along with Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Maul, we already know the flying Mandalorians will appear in the new season of Rebels, but could Bo-Katan be in charge of the whole planet? Part of her backstory involves wanting her people to return to their more war-like ways, which made her alliance with the peace-loving Jedi tenuous. In Rebels, it’s possible Bo-Katan could be totally an ally of the Rebellion, but it’s also just as possible that she’s got her own agenda, too. A lot of people might not like the Empire, but that doesn’t mean they’re necessarily Rebels either.

The third season of Star Wars: Rebels debuts on September 24 on the Disney XD.
