Mark Hamill's Beard Proves Luke Will Survive Episode VIII

Luke Skywalker shaved off his beard and it might be a Star Wars spoiler. Yesterday, Mark Hamill tweeted #ByeByeBeard complete with a video of him smiling amid the remnants of his Jedi Hermit beard. The seemingly innocuous video is set to bouncy music, but is Hamill playing a mind trick on us?

After mentioning he’s done with the beard now, Mark Hamill ends the tweet with “at least til #EpisodeIX.” Cue: the implosion of the internet and the possibly Disney permanently banning Hamill from Twitter for the rest of forever. If Hamill did indeed tweet fact, then that means he’ll definitely be back for Episode IX of the Star Wars series.

It makes sense, though, considering that Han Solo bit the dust in the most recent film. There’s no way the powers that be would kill off two of the original trio in as many movies. At least, we hope they couldn’t.

Still, it’s good to keep in mind that Force ghosts are a thing in the Star Wars universe, and Hamill is now the same age as Alec Guinness was in the original trilogy when he played Obi-Wan. And Obi-Wan definitely retained his beard, even as an undead shimmering ghost. So, even if Luke Skywalker was to die in the as-yet untiled Star Wars: Episode VIII, his beard is going to live on either way. Meaning that maybe the only spoiler here about the future of Star Wars is this: Luke isn’t going to shave.
