New 'The Flash' Movie Info Teases 'Suicide Squad' Connection

A bunch of DC villains teamed up in David Ayer’s middling Suicide Squad, but one of them may get a comeback solo tour in The Flash. Captain Boomerang, played by Jai Courtney, will probably appear in The Flash’s feature film as part of a super-villain team that fights the speedster in many of his comic storylines.

Heroic Hollywood editor-in-chief Umberto Gonzalez said in a live Periscope stream that The Flash will feature several Flash villains, known in comics as the Rogues, in director Rick Famuyiwa’s 2018 entry into the DC-verse.

The Rogues are a rotating group of super-villains based mostly in the Flash’s hometown of Central City. The usual jokers are Captain Cold, Heat Wave, Gorilla Grodd, Golden Glider, Weather Wizard, and Captain Boomerang. Boomerang is an Australian assassin noted for his unlikeable personality — he’s both racist and chauvinist — who was toned down in Suicide Squad. Almost all of the Rogues have already appeared in the CW’s The Flash, which is disconnected from DC’s movies.

Aside from possibly Courtney as Boomerang, Ezra Miller will star in The Flash reprising his Barry Allen after this year’s cameos in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. In the latter film, the Flash apprehended Boomerang and sent him to Belle Reve prison, so the two clearly have some unfinished business. The Flash will have a major role in next year’s Justice League from Zack Snyder. Which is good, because if he’s going to fight villains that team up, he’s going to need some friends.

Warner Bros. releases The Flash in theaters in 2018.
