Thor's Whole Family is Chilling on Earth in 'Thor: Ragnarok'
Plus a possible cameo?
Yesterday, the entire internet swooned after a flood of set images from the upcoming Marvel film, Thor: Ragnarok, appeared online, depicting Thor and Loki chilling out in civilian clothes. Now, more photos have been posted on social media showing the entire Asgardian family hanging out on Earth.
New images have emerged from the set, adding to the staged photo of Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth, as their characters, hanging out wearing civilian clothes by a newsstand. The new photos show off Thor and Loki wandering around the streets of New York (filmed in Brisbane, Australia) in their civvies, but this time there are shots of Anthony Hopkins’ Odin also dressed in Earth clothing.
This begs the question of why the entire Odinson family appears to be on Earth? Wasn’t Thor: Ragnarok described as a road movie? What about the Hulk’s gladiator armor? What does Earth have to do with any of this?
As it turns out, there might be a good reason for the detour to Midgard. The last time viewers saw Loki, he was disguised as Odin in order to secretly rule Asgard. What happened to Odin? Perhaps Loki banished Odin to Earth to prevent him from meddling with his evil plans, hence the detour to Earth.
This might also explain how a rumored Doctor Strange cameo could fit into the story. One of the set images show Thor holding a card that reads “177A Bleecker St.* The address refers to Strange’s home-base, “The Sanctum Sanctorum”. Thor could conceivably request Strange’s help in locating his father on Earth.
While the full details about these scenes are tightly guarded, there must be a good enough reason for the entire family to be on Earth. If Loki, Thor, and Odin are all converged on the same place, it surely means something big is going down, or they’ve decided to reconcile with a family outing to New York.
