'Pokemon Sun' and 'Moon' Just Got a Little Less Random

Being the very best used to mean restarting your game a whole bunch.

A poorly understood Pokémon game concept in the general public is that of “individual values” — the numbers associated with the fighting stats of pocket monsters from the moment they’re hatched. These aren’t directly stated, and traditionally, must be inferred: In short, there’s a best version of each individual Pokémon, and a lot of randomness is involved in getting there. Which is why it’s so incredible that Pokémon Sun and Moon are adding a way to influence them.

The new method’s called Hyper Training, and it has a whole series of requirements. According to the Pokémon Company International’s press release, there’s a specific trainer — called Mr. Hyper, naturally — that can be found in the Alola region that will take level 100 Pokémon and increase their “individual strengths” for the first time ever.

Look at all them stats.

There’s a catch, however. This special training requires a rare Bottle Cap item. How rare? Well, it’s been announced that the upcoming distribution of the mythical Pokémon Magearna — the first time Magearna will be available in North America — will come paired with a Bottle Cap held item. That’s how rare.

Pokémon Sun and Moon are scheduled to release in North America on November 18 for the Nintendo 3DS with an MSRP of $39.99 each.
