'Star Trek' and 'Green Room' Actor Anton Yelchin Dies in Car Accident
The actor was 27 years old at the time of the accident.
Actor Anton Yelchin died early Sunday morning after a freak car accident, his publicist confirmed to The Associated Press. The actor was 27 years old.
The Russian-born actor was best known for his role as Pavel Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek film franchise, and he quickly became a fan-favorite.
Beyond his role as the engineer for the Starship Enterprise, Yelchin had a history of starring in eclectic film roles. The actor played everything from leads in indie films like Charlie Bartlett to romantic-drama parts (Like Crazy), and horror-action turns in Odd Thomas and Fright Night.
Most recently, Yelchin starred in the critically acclaimed punk-horror thriller, Green Room, which won over critics and audiences for its genre-bending, punk sensibilities.
Yelchin will be appearing posthumously in the upcoming third film of the Star Trek reboot series, Star Trek Beyond, where he will reprise his role as Chekov. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, and Idris Elba will co-star in the film directed by The Fast and Furious’ Justin Lin.
Friends of the actor found Yelchin at his home after he was late to rehearsals Sunday morning. The police are investigating the scene as an accident. His family has requested privacy at this time.
