Today, Sony Pictures released a series of four, short character vignettes to introduce us to the new ‘busters. A few weeks ago, we saw something similar for Kevin (Chris Hemsworth) on Administrative Professionals Day, but now we get a glimpse at the central quartet: Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy), Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig), Jillian Holtzman (Kate McKinnon) and Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones).

The film hits theaters on July 15, but this series of vignettes gives us a more insight into whos going to be doing the busting ahead of the film’s release. Let’s meet our brand new generation of ghostbusting women.

Patty Tolan

Played by Leslie Jones, Patty brings to the table an incredible knowledge of New York and its history. An avid reader and amateur historian, she’s the one who’s going to make sure the team has the context they need as they unravel the seriously bizarre stuff happening in New York’s paranormal underbelly, which she’s inadvertently experienced for herself. “She saw what they are talking about, so she knows it’s real,” says Jones.

Jillian Holtzmann

Kate McKinnon’s character is the oddball genius of the bunch. She’s nutty, weird and the brains behind the equipment the team needs to protect New York from all manner of ghostly evildoers. “Yes, this is the closest character to my actual self that I’ve ever played,” says McKinnon.

Abby Yates

“My character has really always been a believer,” says McCarthy. Yates is enthusiastically dedicated to the cause and unwavering in her belief that ghosts are real, despite the many people who try to cheapen her work or her understanding of the world around her. It’s Abby’s commitment to the cause that keeps the team moving forward.

Erin Gilbert

Columbia University professor/quantum physics expert Erin Gilbert is the reluctant believer of the bunch. “Erin is the believer who has had belief thrust upon her,” says director Paul Feig. She’s forced back into contact with Abby Yates when she publishes a book without Erin’s permission, jeopardizing her career.

Ghostbusters hits theaters on July 15th.
