Listen to Lin-Manuel Miranda and J.J. Abrams' 'Force Awakens' Collaboration Now
The track, which was remixed by Rick Rubin and A-Trak, will be included on Rubin's 'Star Wars Headspace' album.
Rick Rubin’s head-scratchingly bizarre yet star-studded Star Wars-themed album called Star Wars Headspace is out next week, but Apple Music Beats 1 DJ Zane Lowe has been playing songs from the compilation on his show in the lead up to the release. With tracks by Flying Lotus, Baauer, Röyksopp, and more, it’s the EDM Star Wars soundtrack you never asked for and didn’t really think you’d ever get. But now, a new song that Lowe debuted on his show today might be just what Star Wars fans wanted. Maybe?
The one potential pull for non-EDM fans on the album was the collaboration between Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams called “Jabba Flow,” The song, recorded under the name Shag Kava, was included in the new Star Wars movie during the introduction of the crowded sequence at Lupita Nyong’o’s character Maz Kanata’s castle. That song, and another by the unlikely musical duo titled “Dobra Doompa,” have remained unreleased since the movie was released and watched by basically everyone on Earth.
You can listen to the album’s version of “Jabba Flow,” which is remixed by Rubin and A-Trak, that Lowe played on his show below.
As far as we can tell it’s not really the version from the movie, so the Rubin and A-Trak remix credit should be stressed a bit more. So if you, Star Wars fan, ever thought to yourself, “Wow, I’d really love to hear a vaguely danceable EDM song with the word “Jabba” repeated over and over again,” now’s your chance.
Star Wars Headspace is out digitally on February 19 and March 18 in physical formats.
