'Gotham' Brings Two Huge Villains Into the Same Episode

Can the Batman prequel recapture viewers by throwing more Big Bads into the mix?

Gotham and I must now continue our long and terrible dance. Each time I think I’m finally done for good, the show pulls me back in. Today, Fox announced the plot synopsis for the mid-season premiere on February 29, and holy casting news, Batman! Check this out:

“Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) takes a hit for Galavan’s murder, but doesn’t let Gordon (Ben McKenzie) off easily. Meanwhile, Gordon and Bullock (Donal Logue) investigate the body-snatching spree of Victor Fries (guest star Nathan Darrow), one of Gotham’s preeminent cryogenics engineers in the all-new ‘Rise of the Villains: Mr. Freeze’ episode.”

Finally, we get Mr. Freeze (my personal favorite villain) introduced to the show continuity, and it is excellent news that he’ll be played by House of Cards bodyguard Nathan Darrow. This promo also suggests that Victor Fries may take a prominent arc in this part of the season:

Also announced is the appearance of BD Wong (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) as Professor Hugo Strange, who is probably toeing the line of being a good guy this early in his story — but what delightful casting. Wong’s most notable roles in 2015 included returning to the Jurassic Park series and bit of questionable stunt casting in Mr. Robot, so we’re all stoked to see him back in the role of complicated psychiatrist.

Our first look at the new Mr. Freeze on 'Gotham.'

Does this stir anything for you, regular Gotham viewers? I’m genuinely excited about both of these announcements, but I’ve been burned before.

So until the 29th just … chill.
