Google's next budget offering, the Pixel 6a, has been leaked in renders. But it might be missing one beloved feature.
The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are still fresh, but that hasn’t stopped leakers from spilling the beans on Google’s next phone.
With leaks provided by prolific leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (@Onleaks), 91Mobiles has revealed the alleged Pixel 6a. From afar, you wouldn’t be wrong to confuse the budget 6a with the just-released Pixel 6, as they share a strikingly similar design.
If the renders are spot-on, you can expect the same horizontal camera bump, a two-tone color scheme on the back, and a hole-punch camera in the middle of the display.
The OLED display is rumored to measure 6.2 inch inches. According to GSMArena, it may actually be an AMOLED display. The fingerprint sensor is rumored to be underneath the display, like on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.
In a move that’s sure to disappoint Pixel A-series fans, Google may finally be doing away with the beloved 3.5mm headphone jack. All of Google’s A-series Pixels have had headphone jacks. Google even released a video alongside the Pixel 5a launch that poked fun at other phones not having the audio port.
With the Pixel 5a, Google used a Snapdragon 765G 5G chip. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro use Google’s first custom Tensor chip for faster AI and machine learning applications. What will the Pixel 6a use? A tensor or a Snapdragon chip?
The two biggest questions remaining are when the phone is launching and for how much. The last two Pixel A-series phones launched in the summertime; an August 2022 date for the rumored Pixel 6a would fit. As for the price, it’ll probably be less than the Pixel 6, which starts at $599. But will it be more than the Pixel 5a’s $449 price?
With an almost identical design and Pixel 6 specs such as the 50-megapixel main camera and glass back (for wireless charging?), the Pixel 6a could be a worthy successor to the Pixel 5a. If it packs a Tensor chip, it may turn out to be one of the budget smartphones of next year.
