Somewhere in Cupertino, Tim Cook is fuming over all of the Apple leaks that keep coming out. The latest leak: next year’s MacBook Air, which looks like it’ll get an injection of color just like the M1 iMacs.
This time, leaks point to a MacBook Air refresh with a new design and better internals. Similar to this year’s iMac, it seems the new MacBook Air will be available in a variety of fun colors, making them an obvious stand-out in a market saturated with black and silver laptops.
2022
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the MacBook Air will launch in mid-2022.
Not too much has been revealed about the internals, but Kuo revealed in July that the new MacBook Air will be the first Apple device using the M2 chip, the follow-up to the groundbreaking M1 chip that now powers most Macs and the M1 iPad Pro.
According to Kuo’s report, the MacBook Air 2022 is getting a Mini-LED display, a new type of display technology for Macs. Mini-LED is the hot thing in display technology, using more LEDs behind the display to light up pixels to provide higher contrast ratios, increased brightness, and deeper blacks. Mini-LED is also more power efficient.
After years of the same tapered design, Apple will supposedly ditch it for something more akin to the rounded corners and flat edges of the new iPhones and iPads. The design may be similar to the new MacBook Pros that are expected to launch later this year. However, as an Air, so we’re expecting it to be as thin as ever.
$999
The current MacBook Air starts at $999, which is the sweet spot.
With the possibility of an upgraded Apple chip, new Mini-LED display, and multiple color options, it’s possible the MacBook Air 2022 could start at a higher price.
The 2022 MacBook Air is at least half a year away, but more information should trickle in as the months go by. For now, many speculate that Apple will announce the latest MacBook Pro models at a fall event. The MacBook Pro could give us a better idea of what to expect and what new additions Apple is planning for its line of laptops.
