Apple’s annual iPhone event is in the rearview, and three new devices are upon us. Making a decision on which phone suits you best can be tough, but if you’re on the fence between the iPhone 14 Pro Max and the iPhone 14 Plus, we’ve got you covered.
Display
The difference in resolution is minor, but the Pro line offers a new notch.
Even though both the iPhone 14 Plus and Pro Max both are equipped with Apple’s new Super Retina XDR display, the resolution for the latter is just a bit better (2778 x 1284 at 458-pixel density vs 2796 x 1290 at 460-pixel density). The Pro also contains the new Dynamic Island, an interface element at the top of its screen, that allows for apps to minimize and become expandable within its pill-shaped form.
Cameras
Perhaps the biggest difference between the two models is the inclusion of a 48-megapixel sensor (the Pro also has this) as well as a 12-megapixel telephoto lens in the Pro Max’s rear camera. The Plus is confined to a 12-megapixel wide and ultrawide lenses for its rear camera.
- The iPhone 14 Plus is powered by the same A15 Bionic Chip introduced in 2021.
- The iPhone 14 Pro Max, however, is powered by an all new A16 Bionic Chip, with a Neural Engine capable of carrying out 17 trillion operations per second.
The iPhone 14 Plus starts at $899.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at $1099.
The iPhone 14 Plus’ battery life that can extend to 26 hours of video playback, 20 hours of video streaming, and 100 hours of audio.

While dimensions are similar, the Plus is slightly wider, measuring 6.33 x 3.07 x 0.31 (inches) compared to the Pro Max, which measures 6.33 x 3.05 x 0.31 (inches).
The big difference here is weight: the Pro Max is heftier at 8.47 ounces compared to the Plus’ 7.16 ounces. The difference comes from materials: the Pro Max is made out of stainless steel, while the Plus has an aluminum body.
