Samsung may have the foldables market cornered in the U.S., but there are plenty of other options available in other countries — it’s not just about the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. Here are some of the best-designed foldables that we wish were available in the U.S.
The Find N was the first serious challenge to Samsung’s dominance in the foldables market. Oppo promised a less visible crease with its water drop hinge design and went with a smaller, easier-to-hold design.
Xiaomi focused on a low-profile design, getting its Mix Fold 2 down to 5.4 millimeters when fully unfolded. Xiaomi also partnered with Leica for its triple-camera setup and uses a “Micro Waterdrop Hinge” to avoid creasing.
Clamshell foldables may not be as common as their traditional counterparts, but its smaller form factor may be exactly what some people want. Huawei contributed its take, the P50 Pocket, which is basically a folded-up version of its existing P50 smartphone.
Motorola has made its third attempt at getting the Razr to be relevant again with the Razr 2022. There’s finally some decent specs, with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and a 144Hz display.
For the real Razr fans out there, you’ll notice Motorola did away with that recognizable chin and notch design.
It’s a shame that Samsung is the only serious phone maker making foldables in the U.S., as great as its devices may be.
A little domestic competition wouldn’t hurt though, looking at you two, Apple and Google. But maybe the U.S. market for foldables will grow enough for these Chinese phone makers to make versions for North America.
