Basketball sneakers may not be the cultural force they were as recently as a decade ago, but if ball is really life you’re going to need something to hoop in. Fortunately, what the category largely lacks in style it more than makes up for in function — and some are even beginning to make inroads in the former.
Similar to Air Jordan, the Curry line has split off from Under Armour to stand on its own. But it’s not just the absence of the “UA” logo we love about the Curry Flow 8, it’s also its single unit sole system and the fact that it doesn’t squeek (yes, really).
Nike’s Cosmic Unity has it all: sustainable sourcing, stylishness, and on-court performance. The sneaker it feels like most is rival Adidas’ Harden Vol. 5, but it’s the only shoe here we can say is one of our favorite of the year, basketball or otherwise.
