From the backside, the Oppo Find X3 Pro (oof, another mouthful) looks like an iPhone 12 Pro knockoff. But that quad-lens camera is not like other cameras. It’s got the world’s first microscope lens in a phone.
The Oppo Find X3 Pro is easily one of the most stacked and performant flagship phones not made by Apple or Samsung.
• Snapdragon 888
• 6.7-inch (QHD+) with 120Hz LTPO
• 8GB/12GB RAM
• 256GB of storage
• Quad camera (50-megapixel main + 13-megapixel tele + 50-megapixel ultra-wide + 3-megapixel microscope)
• 32-megapixel selfie camera
• 4,500 mAh battery
But the Find X3 Pro’s real showstopper is that microscope lens. It’s the most fascinating camera I’ve seen on a phone in a long time. It might even be more interesting than the macro cameras that I think are way overlooked.

As you’ll see next, the microscope camera lets you get really, really close to objects just like a microscope 30 or 60x closer. Shooting with a microscope can be tricky. The plane of focus is so narrow that sometimes it’s impossible to get more than a sliver of detail. The camera even recommends laying the lens flat directly over an object, but I found that’s not always possible.

Should you buy the Oppo Find X3 Pro simply for the microscope camera? Of course not. But being able to see things your eyes can’t see is super cool, even if it’s a little gimmicky. Fortunately, the rest of the phone is so solid — performance, battery life, and even ColorOS — that it’s an easy recommendation if you’re looking for an alternative to the iPhone 12 Pro Max or S21 Ultra.
