The ceremony marks an end to several delays caused by COVID restrictions in Osaka, Japan, where the park is located, after the city declared a state of emergency. The opening also follows suit with American counterparts like Disney World which reopened to guests in July after a four-month closure.

Though still unconfirmed, assets uncovered inside the Super Nintendo World app, including “stickers” of both Donkey and Diddy Kong suggest Donkey Kong Country will come to the park in some capacity, potentially (if fan speculation is to be believed) in its own separate section adjacent to the Mushroom Kingdom.
