The ceremony marks an end to several delays caused by COVID restrictions in Osaka, Japan, where the park is located, after the city declared a state of emergency. The opening also follows suit with American counterparts like Disney World which reopened to guests in July after a four-month closure.

For now, Super Nintendo World will have a mask mandate for all park-goers in addition to reduced capacity. Guests will also have numbered tickets meant to help stagger their entry times and avoid congestion.

Though still unconfirmed, assets uncovered inside the Super Nintendo World app, including “stickers” of both Donkey and Diddy Kong suggest Donkey Kong Country will come to the park in some capacity, potentially (if fan speculation is to be believed) in its own separate section adjacent to the Mushroom Kingdom.

Donkey Kong expansion or not, Super Nintendo World is finally here, so (if travel and theme parks are things you’re willing to do right now) you better start saving for a ticket to Japan now, because AR Mario Kart ain’t gonna play itself.
