Microsoft is celebrating the Xbox's 20th anniversary next month with a see-through controller that we absolutely need to have.
Microsoft is pulling out all the stops to celebrate the launch of the original Xbox back in 2001, announcing a Trolli candy-themed Xbox Series S, a Halo Infinite-themed Elite Series 2 controller and Xbox Series X, an Xbox-themed Adidas sneakers, and now...
The latest 20th-anniversary announcement puts a spin on the Xbox Series X / S controller as well as the wired Xbox Stereo Headset. Both special edition products are made from a translucent grayish-black finish and the insides are silver-colored for easier viewing.
The 20th Anniversary Special Edition Xbox Wireless Controller, as it’s officially known, is an absolute knockout. The see-through material is an enticing aesthetic choice and also a reference to the transparent green finish of the original Xbox’s dev kit according to Xbox.
I like that not every inch of the controller is covered in references, but I’m hoping there’s a hidden message like inside Nintendo’s Switch Pro Controller. Aside from the look, the controller isn’t special in any way — it works exactly like a standard controller, albeit with one special perk.
Pairing the controller to your Xbox unlocks a unique 20th-anniversary dynamic background for your console.
A companion headset is also made from the same dark see-through material and accented with green on the microphone and around the earcups. A “20th” logo is located on the left earcup. The headset isn’t quite as striking as the controller, but if you get one, you might as well get the other.
Razer will also contribute to Xbox’s 20th anniversary gear with a Universal Quick Charging Stand made from the same see-through material as the controller and adorned with an Xbox green “20th” logo. When speaking with Razer, I was told the company is “targeting to launch” the charging stand alongside the controller and headset, but you can find more info here.

The headset and controller are worthy additions to any Xbox owners’ collection, but Xbox has been killing it this year with controller launches. The Aqua Shift, Electric Volt, and see-through Forza Horizon 5 controllers are all bangers. The options are a blessing, but a curse when it comes to keeping money in your wallet.
