From prototypes to pre-assembled components, here's a rare look at Apple's iconic devices from underneath the aluminum and white plastic.
Twitter user @laobaiTD goes by "Mr·white." Nobody knows who they are and how they keep getting access to rare Apple prototypes. Whatever the case is, it's clear they've got access to Apple's supply chain in China and a passion for sharing them online. Apple is no doubt unhappy these photos are on the internet. For fans, it's a special look literally inside that's rarely seen.
The entire underside of the plastic surface is filled with touch sensors to respond to taps and swipes.
Before AirPods are assembled into their tiny little white earbud casings, this is what they look like: tiny circuits flattened out.
A red logic board is a clear indicator that a product is a prototype. Apple uses red logic boards in all of its test devices.
Like the Magic Mouse 2, the Apple TV's Siri Remote is also filled with touch sensors under its surface. Break the surface and you can see how they're aligned. You can also see the small battery located at the bottom.
A pile of Apple Watch Series 2 Ceramic Edition cases. There's about $66,000 worth of Apple Watches in this photo (once you add in the other parts, of course!).
This one is from Apple collector Giulio Zompetti and shows a prototype 2nd or 3rd-gen iPod touch with a center-aligned camera. Apple never released this iPod touch. A camera was added to the 4th-gen iPod touch, but it was located in the corner.
There's a ton of tech crammed inside of an Apple Pencil. What you see here is the spring mechanism for the tip (top), the supercapacitor that quickly charges up the Apple Pencil when it's attached to an iPad (middle), and the magnets that connect it to the tablet (bottom).
Much has leaked on the iPhone 12 / 12 Pro. Mr·white added to the rumors with claims that it might come with an included 20W fast charger. The iPhone 11 Pro currently comes with an 18W fast charger. Is this an inside look at the alleged 20W charger? Honestly, chargers would look so much cooler if they were clear. Very translucent Game Boy Color-ish.
