5 stats that explain the Sondors Metacycle hype

With the Metacycle, Sondors has probably one of the most anticipated electric motorcycles currently in the works. Here's what all the fuss is about.

Bicycles aren’t the only two-wheel EVs having a moment — electric motorcycles are cropping up left and right and arguably few have generated as much interest as Sondors’ Metacycle.

Here’s the Metacycle hype explained in five key stats...

$5,000

An unusually modest price tag for an electric motorcycle.

Sondors’ Metacycle does look sexy, but its aesthetic appeal isn’t even the most enticing part. For that, all you have to do is take a look at the price tag. Though $5,000 may seem like a lot for a secondary vehicle, it’s nothing short of a game-changer in the world of electric bikes, where paying $12,000 or more is common.

80 mph

More than enough speed for your daily commute.

The Metacycle’s price tag only gets better when you consider all the things this bike can do, like, for instance, hit top speeds of 80 mph. Sure, other electric motorcycles like Zero’s SR top 100 mph, but the SR also costs about $20,000. The value-to-spec equilibrium here is pretty hard to beat.

Though 80 miles of range isn’t necessarily a lot among other electric motorcycle competitors, for a commuter bike — which is decidedly the arena in which the Metacycle will fall — it should be plenty.

It is worth noting here, however, that the 80-mile advertised range is under ideal conditions and could change under official EPA scrutiny, so it’s worth approaching that estimate with at least a little skepticism.

That's all it takes to charge the Metacycle to nearly full capacity.

Two hours on a standard US wall socket is all it will take to charge the Metacycle from 0 to 80 percent, which makes the bike a perfect option for commuters who might want to top their EV up while they’re at work.

A big boy battery.

The Metacycle’s 4 kWh battery is compact but still pretty heavy, and despite that weight still easily removed from the motorcycle’s frame. Don’t believe us? Watch this video released by Sondors of its battery pack being swapped out and carried. This rider might just be really strong, though.
