Summer Game Fest has stepped in to fill E3’s shoes for the past few years. Packed with developer insights and trailers, it’s a great show to preview the next year in gaming.
We got a decent look at gameplay from American Arcadia, an upcoming game about escaping from a Truman Show-esque community. American Arcadia is also an official Tribeca Games Selection this year.
Ahead of its 2022 release, Goat Simulator 3 showed off a chaotic cinematic trailer for what’s sure to be an unimaginably wild playground. And no, you’re not misremembering it — there was no Goat Simulator 2.

A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gameplay trailer had new and returning characters with lots of action. Anyone can join the upcoming beta with a pre-order.

Stormgate stood out from the surprisingly large crowd of dark sci-fi games by mixing some fantasy in. The RTS from former Blizzard devs follows a fight against demonic invaders on a future Earth.
Midnight Fight Express hasn’t gotten a ton of buzz yet, but SGF may change that. This hectic, stylish brawler/shooter is being made by a Destiny 2: Witch Queen writer, and it’s set to launch on August 23.
One of the most anticipated indie games of the year dropped a fast-approaching release date at Summer Game Fest. Launching June 16 on Switch and PC, Neon White is a lightning-fast shooter with unique card-based combat.
Retro game fans will be happy to hear TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is coming June 16. Summer Game Fest also revealed new gameplay footage of Casey Jones and April O’Neil in action.

9. Warhammer 40K: Darktide
Coming to PC and Xbox September 13, Warhammer 40K: Darktide is a sequel to the first-person melee Vermintide series. This time, it adds more ranged combat for a battle against Chaos.
With gameplay resembling a mix between Destiny and Outriders, Witchfire made an appearance after a long silence since the 2017 Game Awards. You can wishlist it now on Epic Games Store, ahead of its planned 2022 release.
Genshin Impact was a breakout success for HoYoverse, and Honkai: Star Rail could be another hit. The sci-fi RPG’s trailer showed art similar to Genshin Impact’s gorgeous graphics, and some of the anime cuties you’ll be adventuring with.
Zenless Zone Zero made it a double feature for HoYoverse. Without any new details, it was still an exciting look at the upcoming sci-fi action RPG.
Soon after its gruesome State of Play trailer, Dead Space successor The Callisto Protocol showed off gameplay featuring even more shocking body horror. It’s set to launch on December 2.
After its stunning reveal at Sony’s State of Play, Street Fighter 6 announced the return of Guile at Summer Game Fest. Gameplay footage showed off the classic fighter brawling with Ryu.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns, from XCOM developer Firaxis, is a card-based tactics game. Summer Game Fest debuted a cinematic trailer with Marvel heroes like Venom, Spider-Man, Blade, and the Hulk joining the fray.
Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckman took the stage to share concept art from the standalone TLOU multiplayer game and an image of Joel and Ellie from the TLOU TV show.
