Despite it being one of the most anticipated games of 2022, we’ve yet to see a scrap of gameplay from Starfield. That makes what little has been revealed lately even more tantalizing, including a look at your trusty robot companion and some new concept art.

In mid-March, Bethesda released a video all about Starfield’s factions.

The United Colonies are your typical “good-guy” space civilization. Think Star Trek’s Federation or Star Wars’ Republic.

The Freestar Collective is a looser coalition, inspired by space westerns like Cowboy Bebop and Firefly.

Ryujin Industries is a megacorp with huge cyberpunk vibes.

Each of the factions represents a different part of Starfield’s spacefaring society, adding color to the game’s world.

Bethesda Softworks

Much like in Cyberpunk 2077, you start Starfield in one of these factions, which changes your first steps into the game.

Smaller factions will fill out the world, like the Crimson Fleet space pirates.

You can join the Crimson Fleet on heists or snitch on them to the space cops.

Whichever faction you start with, you’ll end up working for Constellation, the last legion of space explorers.

Of course, factions are nothing without interesting characters to fill them out.

A more recent Starfield update offers the first look at one of the game’s NPC companions.

Bethesda’s April Starfield update shows off concept art and rendered footage of Vasco. Vasco is a friendly but heavily armed robot who can join you on your journey.

Created by Lunar Robotics, Vasco is an industrial robot outfitted to support Constellation’s exploratory mission.

Vasco’s primary mission is peaceful, but he still packs plenty of firepower to help you blast your way across the galaxy.

The update shows a short glimpse of Vasco as the buddy bot appears in game, with his Constellation-branded paint job a little worse for wear.

If Vasco looks familiar, you may have caught a glimpse of him in the 2021 Starfield teaser trailer.

A previously released piece of concept art, also featured in the Vasco trailer, shows the robot hard at work repairing your ship.

With details still scarce and Starfield due out on November 11, 2022, you can expect to learn a lot more about the game in the next few months.
