Meet your new Paldean neighbors.
Game Freak
The August 2022 Pokémon Presents gave us the best look at yet Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. We now know a lot more about the brand-new Paldea region, including why some new Pokémon look like motorcycles...

On top of being a much better pun than Wailord, the ice whale Cetitan has extremely strong physical attacks and freezes the area around itself with its ice-powered horns.

Only Fidough’s cuteness can protect it from how delicious it looks. This pastry Pokémon can inflate itself to intimidate challengers and its bizarre ability to breathe out yeast makes it a favorite of bakers (as an assistant, not an ingredient).
Continuing series tradition, Pokémon will have regional forms for Paldea. The Paldean Wooper has given up its amphibious ways to live entirely on land. It’s also decided to cover itself in poisonous mud. Neat!
Paldea’s answer to Gigantamax is the even more awkward-to-say Terastallize, which gives Pokémon a gem-like appearance. Terastallized ‘mons get a boost to attacks of their Tera Type, which can even change their typing.
Clavell is the director of the academy your Pokémon trainer will attend. The school’s name changes based on whether you’re playing Scarlet or Violet (Naranja or Uva Academy), as does Clavell’s spiffy jacket.

The multitalented Jacq is a Pokémon biologist, creator of this region’s Pokédex, and your homeroom teacher at the academy.

Arven is an upperclassman at whichever academy you attend. According to Game Freak, he’s bad at battling Pokémon, but he’s great at cooking up nutritious meals for them.
If you liked Fire Emblem’s Bernadetta, you’ll love Penny. She’s shy and likes to cut class, so get ready for the “so relatable” posts now. Penny also rocks an adorable Eevee backpack she never takes off, because why should she?
What would Pokémon be without a rival trainer who’s sure this time they’ll be able to beat you. In Scarlet and Violet, it’s Nemona, who loves Pokémon battles but has canonically bad aim with PokéBalls.
Pro snowboarder turned Pokémon trainer Grusha is the leader of Glaseado Gym. Befitting his exceptionally cozy wardrobe, Grusha uses Ice-type Pokémon, particularly Cetitan.
