Get ready for a ride.
Square Enix
With franchises like Final Fantasy and Spider-Man, PlayStation thrives on its exclusives. That looks no different in 2023, with new entries in classic series and some surprising newcomers.
Guerrilla Games
VR isn’t everyone’s thing, but if you’re on the fence about getting the PSVR 2, Horizon: Call of the Mountain just might tip the scales. This gorgeous VR adventure puts you closer than ever to Horizon Forbidden West’s world.
Guerrilla Games
Horizon: Call of the Mountain looks like an incredible hardware showcase, both for its beautiful graphics and how it will incorporate PSVR 2’s new features, like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
Don’t let one corny trailer put you off Square Enix’s promising new action game.
Forspoken is a fantasy RPG that looks like it’s breaking the mold of staid medieval fantasy. There are valid concerns about how it’ll handle representation, but a PSN demo suggests it’s avoiding some big pitfalls.
Square Enix
On top of that, Forspoken has one of Square Enix’s most exciting combat systems yet, with spectacular magic attacks and fast-paced parkour.
Insomniac Games
Peter Parker and Miles Morales have both starred in their own PlayStation games, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 finally puts them together on equal footing.
Insomniac Games
Like the first two games, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be a story-heavy adventure, this time giving both Spider-Men the chance to fight crime and “non-lethally” throw crooks off buildings.
Despite being the second part of the remade Final Fantasy VII, there’s really no way to tell where Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will go. Final Fantasy VII Remake had some major departures from the original that will drastically change where the story ends up.
Square Enix
Vincent Valentine and Zack Fair are expected to make their first appearances, but what we don’t know about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is far more exciting than what we do know.
Scavengers Studio
Season: A Letter to the Future is by far the least-known game on this list, but it’s also one of the most exciting. Its mesmerizing art style already has us sold before even diving into the gameplay.
Final Fantasy XVI is aiming for a much more adult (read: grimy) tone than most of the series. That means this time around there’s sex, murder ... and Moogles, who hopefully aren’t involved in the sex or murder.
Square Enix
Party dynamics and series tropes are being upended in Final Fantasy XVI, with massive monster battles taking center stage. It’s a huge risk for Square Enix, but one that could revitalize its biggest series.
