Some of the best moments in all of Metroid Dread happen during the boss battles. Each one feels more like a puzzle than a bullet sponge.

Here are all 11 Metroid Dread boss encounters, ranked

Nintendo

11. Golzuna

Golzuna hardly feels like a boss battle, especially since it follows one of the most memorable in the game. This one is more like an overpowered enemy than a boss.

Nintendo

10. Escue

Escue is yet another mini-boss, and while it isn’t the most memorable, it does have a neat attack pattern towards the end of the battle.

Nintendo

9. Robot Chozo Soldier

The Robot Chozo Soldier certainly looks the part and has a few interesting attacks, but it’s hard for this one to stand out amongst the slew of Chozo fights.

Nintendo

8. Chozo Soldier (Spear)

This mini-boss is a blast to confront. You won’t find many challenges when facing the Chozo Soldier (Spear), but you’ll probably have a lot of fun.

Nintendo

7. Drogyga

The Drogyga is arguably the weakest out of the main bosses, but it’s hard to deny just how smartly designed the encounter is. This one feels like a puzzle more so than the others. We particularly love the audio of the water during this fight.

Nintendo

6. Chozo Soldier

When it comes to fast-paced, fun mini-bosses, look no further than the Chozo Soldier. This battle isn’t easy, but it’s a satisfying experience that will test your skills.

Nintendo

5. Twin Robot Chozo Soldier

This battle is similar to the previous one, but with two Soldiers instead. The two-on-one Twin Robot Chozo Soldier fight will keep you on your toes.

Nintendo

4. Corpius

The first boss in the game, Corpius, can turn invisible which makes for an interesting complication. It also has one of the coolest ending cinematics in the game.

Nintendo

3. Raven Beak

It’s hard not to love Raven Beak, even given how brutally difficult the fight it. Every moment is a marvel, filled to the brim with awesome animations.

Nintendo

2. Experiment No. Z-57

There’s something so satisfying about the way Samus shoots Experiment No. Z-57 in the face after a successful parry. And the ending is one of the most badass moments in the entire game.

Nintendo

1. Kraid

Kraid might not be the toughest, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable. Sequence breaking the game and using the Morph Ball Bomb to blow out its insides is a highlight. And the music during this fight is absolutely epic.
