The cards never lie.

Predicting what will happen in upcoming games is a preoccupation for a lot of fans. The problem is it’s hard to tell who knows what they’re talking about and who’s just peddling their own fan fiction as a leak.

That’s why, to predict The Elder Scrolls 6 many years before its release, Inverse turned the most trustworthy source of all: divination!

Insight Editions’ Skyrim Tarot Deck lets you do your reading under the watchful gaze of the Night Mother.

The deck’s major arcana depict legendary figures from The Elder Scrolls, starting with Cicero as The Fool...

and ending with the World, embodied by Akatosh.

I’m channeling Azura, goddess of prophecy, to see what’s in store for The Elder Scrolls 6.

From the included guide, I chose the five-card spread Arkay’s Will, which tells you “when the time has come to let go...and what to look forward to.”

Here’s the spread. The deck is shuffled with some cards reversed, which changes their meaning.

The first card in this spread tells you “what you need to end, move on from, or leave behind.”

I’ve drawn Temperance, representing balance. The card features Sotha Sil, one of the god-kings of Morrowind.

So The Elder Scrolls 6 is abandoning balance. Bold choice! That might mean it’s chucking out Skyrim’s aggressive level scaling, bringing back the thrill of getting one-shotted by high-level enemies in Morrowind.

It could also reflect on the player character. Instead of becoming a master of all possible disciplines (learning “spells and swordsmanship” as the guidebook says), you may need to stick to one path.

Card number two tells us “the reason for this ending and why a new start is needed.”

The reversed Page of Lockpicks (Sapphire from Skyrim’s Thieves Guild) “has become too obsessed with worldly goods, leading to excess and wastefulness.”

Bethesda/Insight Editions

Wise words, Page! By mastering magic and combat in a balanced game, it’s too easy to succeed. Your pockets are stuffed with daggers and cheese wheels, but somehow it doesn’t make you happy.

Next, we learn “what you gain from letting go.”

The High Priestess, pictured as Saint Alessia, turns wishes into reality. “Though you may not topple regimes and establish empires, your desires will surely be made manifest.”

Honestly, leading three Guilds while also saving the world is exhausting. The Elder Scrolls 6 letting you chase personal ambitions instead of solving all the world’s problems sounds like a great change.

The fourth card reveals “what wisdom has been gained” by moving on.

The reversed Six of Spells tells us “your rewards will be delayed, and victory may go to your enemy.”

Since you’re not Tamriel’s savior anymore, you should be ready to lose a few fights and have your hopes crushed on the journey. It builds character.

Finally, we see “what is waiting for you after this transition.”

It’s The Lovers, symbolizing harmony, and of course, romance. The card features star-crossed lovers Jon Battle-Born and Olfina Gray-Mane.

Great news — The Elder Scrolls 6 is a dating sim! You’ll need to find harmony between questing and romance, but if there’s one thing we can all agree The Elder Scrolls needs more of, it’s sloppy makeouts.

ZeniMax/Bethesda

So there we have it. Honestly, this all checks out. The Elder Scrolls is ready for a big shakeup, like turning you from an all-powerful prodigy into just another adventurer.

If it’s set in Hammerfell like rumors have claimed, it also makes sense for magic and physical skills to be more exclusive, given the province looks down on magic. And who doesn’t want more romance in their RPGs?
