The Backbone One PlayStation Edition is a new iPhone controller peripheral licensed by Sony, making it easier to play PS4 and PS5 games on the go.

The peripheral connects to modern iPhones and is available right now for $99.

It’s really the only way to effectively take PS5 Remote Play on the go.

The Backbone transforms your iPhone into a PS5 Remote Play experience that mirrors the basic DualSense design in the rough shape of a Nintendo Switch or Steamdeck.

Since the Backbone plugs into your phone, there are fewer issues with input lag. Your overall mileage with input lag will vary depending on your internet speeds.

The device also offers a 3.5mm headphone jack, a charge port (allowing you to charge while you play), and a dedicated Share button, giving you a well-rounded experience with the newest PS5 games like Stray.

The Backbone One PlayStation Edition is also more compact than the Nintendo Switch.

And it’s most certainly smaller than the massive Steam Deck.

Sadly, the Backbone doesn’t feature a PlayStation button or an elegant solution for the DualSense’s touchpad, which can feel finicky at times.

Despite this, we can’t imagine playing PS4 and PS5 games on the go without the Backbone One PlayStation Edition, thanks to its design and emphasis on comfort.
