This is what video games will look like when the machines take over.
You may have seen AI art floating around online — nightmarish but oddly beautiful images dreamt up by machines.
Gaming site DiamondLobby put those machine artists to work designing video game covers using the WOMBO Dream app, with predictably mind-boggling results (this is what it thinks Resident Evil 9 will look like).
We start with a relatively sensible one. You can see some approximation of players and crowd in the AI image, and even an attempt at making the NBA 2K logo in the corner.
The AI-generated Valorant cover somehow seems to match the game’s vibe (with a bit more of a cyberpunk horror feel), despite being completely incomprehensible.
The AI is taking an extremely literal approach for Elden Ring here. You said you want a ring? You got it.
This one actually captures the energy of the original Super Mario Strikers cover surprisingly well. If you squint, it also looks like Mario absolutely annihilating Luigi with a soccer ball to the head.
The inscrutable AI image is pretty much what I picture whenever someone mentions Fortnite, so well done, robots!
The AI sort of phoned this one in, to be honest, but it managed to produce a pretty decent Arceus in the process.
Now we’re in full nightmare territory. It’s hard to parse what the God of War Ragnarok AI cover is even supposed to be, but if it resembles anything, it’s the end of the world. We’ll call that a success.
The Call of Duty Warzone redesign almost looks like it could be part of the game’s map — until you notice that pieces of the landscape are made of helicopters and guns.
Clearly, the AI recognized that Master Chief and the sky are big elements in the Halo Infinite box art. It just chose to arrange them in the creepiest way possible.
Now the AI’s just showing off. Frankly, Amazon’s New World MMO could take a few tips from our robot overlords.
