One of the highlights of The Mandalorian Season 2 was Ahsoka Tano's appearance in Chapter 13, "The Jedi."

Lucasfilm

The episode reached a climax with an epic fight between Ahsoka and the fearsome Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth in her lavish courtyard.

However, the most interesting part of that setting is revealed in the concept art.

Lucasfilm

This art by Erik Tiemens shows Mando in the luxurious gardens, but there seems to be a lurker on the very far left of the image. ..

Lucasfilm

It's hard to see, but TikToker ThatWookieGuy noticed a familiar droid in the background.

Lucasfilm

Could that be R2-D2 himself? Well, probably not. This droid seems to be missing a few key markings.

Lucasfilm

However, it could be one of the many other astromech units used throughout the Star Wars universe.

Lucasfilm

Astromechs are primarily used in space travel, so obviously, someone's been traveling on and off of Corvus, but who?

Lucasfilm

Could Grand Admiral Thrawn be a frequent visitor to Corvus?

Lucasfilm

Could the droid be Ahsoka's, abducted by the tyrannical government of the city of Calodan?

Lucasfilm

The droid didn't make it into the final cut of the show, but perhaps this will be revisited in a future episode of either The Mandalorian Season 3 or the upcoming Ahsoka show.

The Mandalorian R2 droid theory

Considering the R2-D2 cameo and the dark trooper battle in the Mandalorian Season 2 finale, there's no shortage of droids on the show.

Lucasfilm

But perhaps this forgotten droid will come back in a big way as Ahsoka's robotic sidekick in her upcoming spinoff.
