5. Containment Season 1

Leaving October 20

It seemed like sci-fi when it was released in 2016, at least. Containment takes place inside an isolation zone in the aftermath of a deadly viral outbreak. Society is breaking down, and scientists scramble for a cure.

4. The Mist Season 1

Leaving October 23

Based on a Stephen King novella, Spike’s sci-fi series The Mist ran for 10 episodes. The bleak, atmospheric series takes place in a town overrun by deadly mist, like the movie of the same name.

3. Battle: Los Angeles

Leaving October 31

A combat movie in sci-fi clothes, Battle: Los Angeles follows a group of soldiers as they make a last stand against invading aliens in LA. It has all the subtlety of a Call of Duty level, but it’ll do the trick if you want straight-ahead sci-fi action.

2. Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code

Leaving October 31

These Dan Brown adaptations turn their speculative eye on age-old mysteries and secret societies. With a vial of antimatter as a MacGuffin and a science vs. religion argument at its core, Angels & Demons is the better pick for sci-fi fans.

1. Inception

Leaving October 31

Inception seems to appear and disappear from streaming services as quickly as its cast jumps from dream to dream. Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending heist movie once again leaves Netflix this month.
