6 must-see sci-fi movies leaving HBO Max in March 2021

“Game over, man!”

HBO Max added plenty of sci-fi to its lineup in March 2021, but it’s also getting rid of some must-see movies at the end of the month.

Here are the 6 best sci-fi movies leaving HBO Max on March 31 (and one a little earlier).

6. Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019)

This surprisingly charming crime caper starring everyone’s favorite lightning-powered yellow mouse is the first to go, leaving HBO Max on March 22.

5. The Thing (2011)

The confusingly titled prequel to John Carpenter’s classic The Thing isn’t as good as the original, but its strain of tense, gory horror is still worth a watch.

4. The Chronicles Of Riddick (2004)

If you’re more interested in top-tier action schlock than anything resembling a coherent plot, Vin Diesel’s Pitch Black sequel should be on your radar.

3. Twelve Monkeys (1995)

If you haven’t seen Terry Gilliam’s cult time travel masterpiece (inspired by the also-brilliant La Jetée), there’s still time to fix that.

2. Aliens (1986)

James Cameron upped the ante on Ridley Scott’s Alien, pitting a squad of colonial marines and Xenomorph’s worst nightmare Ellen Ripley against a whole hive of alien face-huggers.

1. Alien Director’s Cut (1979)

Speaking of Alien, the director’s cut restores lots of footage trimmed from the original release, including a famously gruesome scene showing crew members being turned into alien eggs.

Completists will also have until March 31 to watch the vastly inferior Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection before they leave HBO Max.
