James Gunn and Peter Safran’s time in charge of DC Studios is just starting, and with Wonder Woman already on the chopping block, it’s clear they’ve got big plans. Even with all the turmoil, there are a few upcoming projects that still look solid.

These 8 DC Studios movies are still on the horizon — for now

8. Shazam: Fury of the Gods

March 17, 2023

After the surprise success of 2019’s Shazam!, its sequel, Fury of the Gods, is one of the most interesting projects on DC’s slate. The first DC release of 2023 looks like it will see the Shazam family on equal footing with the original film’s star.

7. The Flash

June 16, 2023

Despite the awful off-set behavior of star Ezra Miller, The Flash is going ahead as planned. The film’s plot — likely adapting the earth-shaking Flashpoint comics — could have major repercussions on the rest of the DCU, and it could be the end of the line for Miller.

DC Studios
6. Blue Beetle

August 18, 2023

Blue Beetle is a lesser-known hero, which means DC Studios has more leeway to change his origins. Jaime Reyes will be a college grad rather than a high school student, and the movie will tell how a space bug turns him into a superhero.

5. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

December 25, 2023

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has suffered delays, but it’s still one to look forward to. James Wan and Jason Momoa return for the sequel to the incredibly fun 2018 Aquaman, but little is known about its plot.

4. Joker: Folie à deux

October 4, 2024

Joker: Folie à Deux is rumored to introduce Harley Quinn, as its title suggests two people affected by the same delusion. Another rumor claims it will be a musical, which may be exactly the wild move DC Studios needs.

Warner Bros.
3. The Batman 2

TBA

The Batman put a fresh spin on the Dark Knight, and it hit the mark with critics and audiences. A sequel is in production but is likely a long way off, so details are scarce.

DC Studios
2. Superman

TBD

A surprise announcement from James Gunn confirmed that he’s writing a new Superman movie — and that Henry Cavill won’t be part of it. Gunn is focusing on a younger version of the hero, but it’s possible Cavill could return to the DCU someday.

Warner Bros.
1. Lobo

TBD

Stepping fully into rumor territory, it’s not impossible that we’ll see a movie about Lobo, the walking embodiment of ‘90s edginess. James Gunn and Jason Momoa have both hinted at wanting to make a Lobo movie, and with Gunn calling the shots now, it’s not out of the question.
